What we're looking for

We have an open position for Rust developers. We are looking for a part-time Rust Developer to assist with maintaining and upgrading the company's existing codebase. Web application is built on the Rocket web framework and runs on MySQL 5.7, which they plan to upgrade to MySQL 8 or higher. Using AWS and prioritizing high-quality code with efficient integration and migration processes.

 

Responsibilities

  • Maintain Existing Rust Codebase: Work with an older, less than 20kb Rust codebase to ensure its continued functionality and performance.
  • Rocket Framework Expertise: Utilize your experience with the Rocket web application framework to maintain and enhance our web application.
  • Database Upgrades: Assist in upgrading our MySQL database from version 5.7 to 8 or higher.
  • AWS Integration: Ensure seamless integration and deployment on AWS.
  • Ongoing Support: Provide ongoing support and maintenance for the application, addressing any issues that arise.
  • Code Optimization: Optimize the existing code for better performance and scalability.

 

Skills

  • Proficiency in Rust: Strong experience with Rust programming language, especially with older codebases.
  • Experience with Rocket Framework: Proven experience in developing and maintaining applications using the Rocket web application framework.
  • Database Management: Experience with MySQL, specifically in upgrading and maintaining versions.
  • AWS Experience: Familiarity with deploying and managing applications on AWS.
  • Attention to Detail: Ability to work with a small, non-complex codebase while maintaining high standards of code quality.
  • Flexible Availability: Availability for occasional part-time work, with flexibility to address urgent issues as they arise.
